Scientific Illustration: Bugs, Plants, Birds and Rocks
In this camp, students will learn to observe and draw the natural environment. We will introduce basic techniques of scientific illustration in black-and-white and color media. Students will create artwork based on close observations of specimens and live subjects.
The topics covered will include:
• Drawing insects from pinned specimens
• Flower dissection and illustration
• Sketching local bird species
• Creating maps and cross-sections of local geology
At the end of the camp, students will create a bound nature journal of their work. This camp will develop observational and artistic skills and foster engagement with the natural world.
