Saturday, August 24, 2019, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Designed for people new to home gardening who want to jump in after seeing summer's bounty. Master Gardeners, Delise Weir will cover some basic soil preparation techniques and will build a small "lasagna" garden bed made of layered materials which is a great way to get your soil started in the fall. You'll walk away with a list of what you can grow starting in Aug/Sept and whether you should start them from seed or by transplant. We'll discuss issues special to fall gardening such as care for plants in cool temperatures or sudden Indian summer and typical pests you'll deal with in our unpredictable fall weather. We'll finish up with a bit about cover cropping which will help you prepare a larger part of your yard for a spring garden. This class is designed for people with little to no experience growing vegetables or are new to the area who want get started now. A portion of the class will be outside so please bring a hat, sunscreen and dress in layers.
