Birds by the Bay
We’re celebrating Take a Child Outside Week with a free, family-friendly walk through the habitats of Santa Cruz! All ages are welcome for this bird-watching bonanza hosted by the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. We’ll use binoculars to watch birds from afar and magnifying glasses to explore feathers, skulls, and specimens up close. Birds of prey, waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds are all likely visitors as we trek through a variety of habitats, including wetlands, grasslands, and coastal cliffs.
Where: We will meet at the entrance to Antonelli Pond on Delaware Avenue just before the Coastal Science Campus complex. We will walk through mostly flat terrain on an approximately 1.5 mile loop that will take us to the coastal cliffs near the Seymour Center and back. There will be optional small hills for those interested in different views of Antonelli Pond. There are restrooms and water fountains at the Seymour Center.
Who: All ages and experience levels are welcome! This program is part of Take a Child Outside Week and will therefore be geared towards youth. All youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
Cost: Preregistration required.
