Bird Gallery Reopening Reception at Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History

Thursday, August 29, 2019, 12:30 AM

Hunting birds and performing taxidermy on them used to be more...common. And while we don’t do that as much anymore, there’s educational and aesthetic value in preserving the stuffed birds that do exist and displaying them in the context of a museum exhibit. The natural history museum in Pacific Grove has about 300 stuffed birds, all of which were collected in Monterey County. To celebrate the reopening of its bird gallery, the museum is throwing a party. Exhibits have been upgraded and made more interactive. But the stars of the show are still the taxidermy animals themselves, including a California condor, lots of raptors, a black-footed albatross, and tons of ducks and hummingbirds. [AS]
