An Economy for All of Us: Wealth Through Employee Ownership
In an era of massive income and wealth inequality, there is a solution: worker cooperatives! Worker cooperatives are businesses that are owned and operated by the workers rather than an individual, CEO, or private investor. Such models have enormous success in the Bay area and in many other parts of the world. Worker cooperatives not only generate greater wealth for those who keep the gears turning but also for the community at large. Speakers include David Brown from Co-op Santa Cruz, Maria Cadenas from Santa Cruz Community Ventures, and Yassi Eskandari-Qajar from Sustainable Economies Law Center. Come learn more about what worker cooperatives are, how they work, and how local government can play a role in supporting the growing movement!Overview 7:00Part 1: What are cooperatives? - Maria Cadenas 7:10Part 2: Successes of Berkeley: How can cities support the cooperative movement? - Yassi Eskandari-Qajar 7:40Questions 8:10CoOp movement in Santa Cruz & Call to Action! - David Brown 8:30Network & meet the local cooperatives 8:30End 9:00
